Posted on November 11th, 2011 in Animal Teaching by mrsgensburg  Tagged

This must be posted by before school November 18th.

Fish are large part of people’s diet in many countries including the United States. There has been a lot of discussion in recent year about farm raised fish vs wild fish (particularly in relation to salmon). Look up information on this topic, and then in 8-10 sentences give your opinion on the topic. Is one better than the other? If so which one? Why? Please include links to any site you visit at the bottom of your comment.

Also please let me know what you thought of teaching the class.

Echinoderm Teaching 11-12

Posted on November 7th, 2011 in Animal Teaching by mrsgensburg  Tagged

Sea stars, sea urchins, sand dollars. These are all echinoderms. At first glance things like sea cucumbers and sand dollars might not look like animals. Please image yourself in this scenario. This must be posted by before school Monday November 14th.

You are walking along the sea shore on a big family vacation with a young niece and nephew.  You find a sand dollar on the shore.  At first glance it does not look like an animal.  Explain in 8-10 sentences using (appropriate terminology for an elementary school student) explaining to them an echinoderm. How does it eat? How does it move? etc… Try to use an analogy to explain an echinoderm.

In addition, How did you feel about teaching the class?

Great job to those of you who taught the class on Friday! Here is your next task. Please respond to this blog question by the morning of Friday November 4th. You need to answer the questions below in 8-10 complete sentences.

In addition. Please let me know what you thoughts of teaching.

There are over 900,000 species of Arthropods that have been located, and maybe the same amount still not found.  Many of those are insects. Write (in 8-10 complete sentences) a paragraph to Congress to convince them to fund researching for locating the other approximately 900,000 Arthropod species. Things to think about: Why should they find them? What can arthropods do for us?
